Having moved home just before last Christmas and spending months renovating and decorating we weren’t going to take a summer holiday this year as we’ve spent so much getting the grounds and swimming pool that we have here at home up and running, we even have a full sized lawn tennis court which has taken so much upkeep and maintenance. Our thoughts being we’d be fully geared up for a summer at home and wouldn’t have to venture too far for Tiggy and her brothers to enjoy a lovely summer. However, the weather here this summer was truly awful save for thankfully the weekend of Tiggy’s birthday where we had a garden party at home which you can take a look at by clicking this link: Tiggy’s 2nd Birthday.
After endless weeks of rain I’d had enough, the children weren’t able to play in the garden and there are only so many days that jumping in puddles wearing wet weather clothing or finding activities to do at home while it pours down with rain that you can do. The children were “climbing the walls” and I had pretty much lost the will to live so we booked a holiday.
I’d not been to Cyprus before, my husband had many years ago and figured given the weather there we were if nothing else guaranteed some sunshine so off we went. We had no great expectations, we didn’t book anything “fancy” just 12 days away where we could enjoy time together as a family and given that I was 7 months pregnant and we knew it was going to be hot we didn’t plan any excursions or day trips which when we were there I was most thankful for! The temperature each day ranged between 38 and 42 degrees and there were times even being the sun worshipper that I am, that I struggled. Sensibly I spent a lot of time in the shade, wore a big sun hat, wore a high factor sun cream and drank endless bottles of water and enjoyed jumping in the pool with Tiggy and her brothers, ok maybe not quite jumping.
Tiggy and her brothers had such a blast! They spent each day splashing about in the pool, each of them coming on leaps and bounds with their swimming and confidence in the water and it was simply fantastic to watch! In terms of family time it was absolutely perfect. I couldn’t have asked to see the children any happier and it was time we needed together as life gets so busy.
We ate out each evening and that’s when we explored and had a little wander as it was far cooler than during the day and I was roping everyone and anyone we passed to take a picture of us all together, very rare for us all to be in the photograph, in the hope that we’d achieve just one decent one and we ended up with a few and of course a few funny ones, there’s always one in the picture pulling a funny face or not looking towards the camera!
We stayed in an apartment at the Anais Bay Hotel in Paralimni just yards above Kalamies Bay which was picture perfect. We even had a day at the beach as an alternative to sitting by the pool and what a fun day we had.
We chose to take a pedalo out which had a slide attached to the top of it and once we started pedalling (yep I did that at 7 months pregnant!) we quickly realised the pedalo was broken and wouldn’t turn! Only us! We shouted back for help and got towed back in by a jet ski which the boys, Tiggy’s brothers, thought hilarious.
Once all fixed we headed back out and as a mum to watch your children enjoy something so much and be so brave too was awesome! Tiggy didn’t try out the slide but not for the lack of her wanting to. Anything her brothers do she wants to do too but she really is too small just yet to be shooting down a high slide into the middle of the sea! One day.
It was my birthday whilst in Cyprus and the boys chose a restaurant where they’d seen someone being sang to for my birthday meal and whilst mortified as the restaurant came to a stop whilst they sang to me, the faces of Tiggy and her brothers, their delight, was wonderful and no doubt will stay with them as a happy memory, me too.
I took some pretty dresses with me in the hope that I could have a couple of photographs of my bump in a pretty setting and was delighted when I saw just how pretty the Bay was and managed a couple of photos that I’m really pleased with as keepsakes of this pregnancy.
All in all, the holiday was a success, a great success, nothing too rock n roll or exciting, just perfect time together as a family which is all we’d hoped for.
Tiggy dancing her way across the street…
Tiggy hop, skipping and jumping her way to the pool…
We came home with fond memories, happy and great memories of long days in the sunshine, playing in the pool and laughing together, perfect! It’s what we’d hoped for when we renovated the outdoor areas of our home but wasn’t meant to be with the weather at home so thank you Cyprus for giving us all that you did xoxo.
