When the lovely people at Barnsley House in The Cotswolds invited us to stay with them for our babymoon I naturally “Googled” them and instantly knew this was THE place we’d stay. It looked dreamy, picture perfect and just what I had in my mind when I pictured a weekend get away, idyllic setting, pretty gardens, tranquil spaces, a spa and rooms that looked heavenly.
We arrived around lunchtime and as we pulled into the drive of Barnsley House I instantly knew we were not going to be disappointed. WOW! is what sprung to mind. It was far prettier “in the flesh” than it was in the pictures and that’s saying something as the pictures alone were simply beautiful.
We checked in and headed for a spot of lunch at “The Village Pub” also part of Barnsley House and it was everything you imagine the perfect village pub to be. Quintessentially British with an open and roaring fire, warm and welcoming, incredibly inviting with little “nooks and crannies” in which to sit and enjoy some wonderful food which was truly scrumptious. As we’d booked in for dinner that evening I didn’t was to spoil my appetite so had some bar snacks which they alone were amazing while we waited a few short minutes for a table, understandably busy given it was lunch time and the menu absolutely divine so a scallops starter for me and a full roast beef dinner for my husband and then I couldn’t resist having seen someone else’s the apple crumble which had a lot to live up to as my grandmother used to make an amazing crumble but this (sorry Grandma) was out of this world delicious!
The village that Barnsley House is situated in is picture perfect!
We met with a photographer here whom I’d been in contact with prior with a view to some maternity photos being taken, and once it was confirmed we were to stay at Barnsley House it seemed like the perfect place to have some photographs taken. The oh so lovely Danni of Danielle Reeder Photography captured some of the nicest photos and most special moments for us for which I’m truly thankful for as my husband and I have very few photos of us together unless its been taken via a “selfie-stick”! so these for me are just perfect. I’ll post some more in a separate blog post shortly.
We were shown to our room which turned out to be an entire little cottage, number 19 in fact and again, WOW! I’ll just let the pictures do the talking…
Danni took a few pictures here for me for some gorgeous maternity clothing that has been generously gifted to me by Mamas & Papas from their new range together with Bloom & Blossom and we said our goodbyes before my husband and I changed ready for dinner at Barnsley House.
The night had drawn in and the house takes on a very different feel all lit up and twinkly with, just like the village pub, little spaces in front of open fires to sit and enjoy. It really was very magical and such a lovely setting to enjoy time together just my husband and I.
The following morning we took breakfast at the house, again truly delicious, and went for a walk around the gardens and discovered a garden full of different fruits including some apple trees which was so poignant as you’ll be aware if you follow on Instagram that we have nicknamed our impending little bundle “our little pip” which comes from an early scan where she was about the size of an apple pip so I couldn’t resist some photos here. In fact there were apples both here and in the house from which we could help ourselves and without any exaggeration they were the most gorgeous apples I have ever tasted.
We took a walk across to the spa which looked oh so inviting and delightful but given my heavily pregnant size and the fact I’d clean forgotten to pack a swimsuit it was out of bounds for me and my husband didn’t like to use it without me bless him as this weekend was supposed to be a treat for me, so we just stopped for a while and took it all in knowing that next time I’ll remember my swimsuit!
And there will be a next time as Barnsley House was everything and more that I had hoped and imagined it to be and if you’re looking for the perfect getaway retreat then I’ve found it for you here at Barnsley House, a truly beautiful place which will forever hold some special memories of us being it was our babymoon. All that’s left to say is a very heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff at Barnsley House to whom I’m incredibly grateful xoxo.
